New Germany State Park & CCC Documentary

The Coal Women is an incredible story about the coal women and several Queens of the Virgin Islands along with the American Princess Pocahontas in one documentary. The Coal Women carried baskets of coal on their heads that weighed from 60 lbs to 100 lbs to fuel steam ships to earn 1 cent or token per load in hopes of earning $1 per day. This helped to expand goods and services to the world and continue the Industrial Revolution. While filming and researching the Coal Women, I found out that the coal came from West Virginia and the areas around it. My Great Great Grandfather owned the Eckhart Coal Mine (became Consolidated Coal Company) was one coal mines that was part of the Appalachian mines. Coal was sent to Baltimore Maryland to St. Thomas.
